Mazatlán, Mexico: Lots to do and lots of reasons not to do any of it.

Mazatlan, Mexico

We didn't pick Mazatlán, Mexico as a vacation destination for its deep-sea fishing, sailing or any of the other things you can reportedly do there. We picked it because of all the things you don’t do there. Namely, put on pants or shoes (or deodorant, judging from the smell of our fellow tourists). Cancun, Mexico: It's not all beer chugging and wet t-shirt contests (dammit).

We hadn't originally planned our two-week vacation to Mexico for its affordability but—when weeks later I found myself unemployed (like the rest of the planet)—it seemed like a prescient choice. It is the definition of a warm weather vacation spot. Perfect for sitting on your butt, soaking up the sun and getting tanked by the pool. But we'll probably never go back.  | Read more »

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: “Donde esta casa de cervezas?”

Amy and I decided to blow five vacation days in Mexico this year. We stayed at the Sierra Plaza Golf Resort in Marina Vallarta, about five minutes from "old downtown" Vallarta. It is a splendid five-star place with all the charm and Mexican tiling anyone could hope for. Like all good resorts, the help were helpful, the rooms were roomy and the bar was swim-up. | Read more »
