Why the world needs more musicians and fewer 'recording artists.'

The talented singer, Stephanie Nilles, makes a point in her liner notes that bears repeating in this modern world of Copyright and Digital Rights Management issues. She reminds us that, at one point in time, musicians had to actually work for a living instead of recording one hit song and then living the life of a drug-addled jack-ass.

"If you want to support a musician, go hear them play live; pay for a ticket or pay them in tips. Buy their CD if you'd like to "hold" the record, or download the CD for free, then share it with other folks....If you want to be a musician, it's because you can't not play in a room full of people at every opportunity given to you. ...the record is peripheral in comparison to live performance. A working musician works in a room full of people, creates a moment that provides relief, joy, transcendence, nostalgia, or provokes thought for the duration of the time available. THAT's the job."

Of course, to perform live and still make a living you need talent, not ProTools and AutoTune...
