Evidently, Bush isn’t a pigheaded, fear-mongering liar. He's just a Conservative.

For 8 years, I believed George Bush was an unrepentant charlatan, an ineloquent dolt and a power-hungry madman, but maybe—just maybe—I was wrong about him.

Maybe there was another reason for his lies, war-mongering and mass eradication of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights and freedoms.

Maybe he wasn’t single-handedly trying to bring down the greatest democracy yet created. Maybe he didn’t have secret dreams of being America’s first dictator.

Maybe George W. was a just being a typical Conservative.

This article from Gawker.com reports on a survey which helps explain the Conservative mindset. “Rice University Political Scientist, John Alford, published some research ... about a possible biological basis to liberalism and conservatism.”

Some of the findings are frankly shocking. Evidently, Conservatives believe strongly in supporting “essential institutions” such as the Government (Wait, I thought they hated Big Government?). They think loyalty, duty and respect for authority are immutable morals.

It seems, too, that “bad-ass” Conservatives are ironically more afraid of scary things than “wimpy” liberals.

Yet, most perplexing is the finding that Conservatives were more likely to believe incorrect facts even in the face of refutation. In other words, pointing out factual errors to Conservatives (Iraq had ties to 9/11; Iraq has WMDs; The U.S. doesn’t torture; etc.) actually made them believe the incorrect information even more.

In a nutshell, the study reveals that Conservatives respond instinctually to threats, contrary information and institutional authority, not rationally like most people profess.

That certainly goes a long way towards explaining Bush’s unchecked Government spending, over-reacting to foreign threats, as well as his baseless insistence that Iraq had WMDs.

And it explains why we certainly should never give Conservatives the nuclear launch codes.
