This is exactly what the fuss is about.

So today I read that Cox Interactive is blocking access to Craigslist because Cox offers its own classified ad website. Sounds minor, but it's a harbinger of things to come if we don't somehow police Internet Service Providers like AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, et al.

With ISP consolidation, Americans will soon only have a few on-roads to the Internet. In that event, ISPs can skew/filter our experiences any way they choose, without regard for our wishes. We'd be experiencing the Internet with all the freedom of a dial-up AOL subscriber. The Internet will have ISP-imposed walls—a prospect worse than than the current Internet censorship in China, because we won't even know what news or information we're missing out on.

If the powers that be (and I'm not really talking about our "elected" leaders here) want to control the masses—and why wouldn't they—there's no better way than by controlling our access to alternative views and information. Media Consolidation is now so bad, even Ted Turner is against it.

This Cox issue is just the tip of the iceberg. The Media noose has begun to tighten.
